Void

In the Jomon period, pottery was created by pressing ropes into clay to form patterns. These decorations were not merely ornamental; they enhanced grip and strength while elevating everyday vessels into objects with spiritual meaning.
The work Void takes this tradition as a reference, reinterpreting it through a contemporary lens. Here, the rope becomes a visible ornament while simultaneously shaping the vessel’s form, as if “woven” into its structure. By combining transparent materials with metal components, the piece seeks to evoke a silhouette that is both present and absent—visible yet elusive.
Through this dialogue between the robust spirit of the Jomon era and the lightness of modern materials, Void invites reflection on how our ways of living, our cities, and the materials that surround us have transformed over the course of more than two thousand years, while our fundamental human nature may remain much the same.
